This translates into substantial financial support and reflects the commitment and success of UniLodz researchers, as well as the efforts of staff at the University’s Project Support Centre, who assist them in securing funding for research projects.
At present, researchers from the University of Lodz are carrying out 21 projects and coordinating the work of six research consortia funded under Horizon Europe. Combined with the total funding secured for these initiatives, currently nearly €9.5 million, this places the University fourth among Polish universities, behind the Universities of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. In the Łódź region, we are the undisputed leader in obtaining Horizon Europe funding, ahead of institutions including the Lodz University of Technology, the Medical University of Lodz, the Łódź Voivodeship Self-Government and Airbus Helicopters Polska SA.
A modern university must actively participate in both the national and international research landscape. Research projects make it possible to diversify sources of funding, strengthen the university’s visibility and prestige and, above all, create new opportunities for our researchers to cooperate and build international scientific networks. Our role is to create conditions in which employees of the University of Lodz can make effective use of these opportunities. That is why developing and strengthening the administrative structures that support the acquisition and implementation of projects is one of the key priorities in enhancing the potential of the entire University

The Horizon Europe projects implemented at the University of Lodz that have received the highest levels of funding are as follows:
- "Coming to Terms: Proof Theory Extended to Definite Descriptions and other Terms” carried out by the University of Lodz Center for Natural Philosophy under the leadership of Prof. dr hab. Andrzej Indrzejczak – €1,629,775;
- "Biodegradable Bio-based Bioactive Packaging Technology for Supporting Food Safety” implemented by researchers from the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection (Principal Investigator: Dr Karolina Rudnicka, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz) – €1,558,362;
- "Visionary roadmaps: Crafting an Inclusive and Participatory European Democracy with Youth and Communities (Youth for Europe / YOUROPE)” carried out by researchers from the Faculty of Educational Sciences under the leadership of dr hab. Mariusz Granosik, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz – €483,841.
Horizon Europe is the largest research and innovation funding programme in the history of the European Union, covering the period 2021 to 2027. With a budget of approximately €95.5 billion, its primary objective is to support breakthrough research, technological development, climate action, as well as the digital and green transitions. Funding is available to researchers, universities, research institutes, small and medium-sized enterprises, start-ups and non-governmental organisations.
