1920 - The traditions of Łódź’s economic and sociological academic community date back to the 1920s, when the Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences operated in the city.
1928 - The Łódź Branch of the Free Polish University began its activities. Teaching was conducted there by, among others, future professors of the University of Łódź, including Edward Rosset and Józef Chałasiński.
1937 - The Łódź Branch of the Free Polish University commenced the construction of the building at 3/5 POW Street, which constitutes the core of today’s Faculty of Economics and Sociology building. The construction was completed in 1948.
1945 - A decree was issued establishing the University of Łódź, which initially comprised three faculties: Humanities, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and Law and Economics.
1950 - Based on the Łódź branch of the Warsaw School of Economics, which had been operating in the city since 1945, the Higher School of Economics was established. Its academic programmes included Industrial Economics, Finance, Commodity Science, and later Commerce and Commodity Studies.
1961 - The Faculty of Economics was established at the University of Łódź. It was formed on the basis of the academic staff of the Higher School of Economics, as well as economics departments from the Faculty of Law and Economics and sociology departments from the Faculty of Philosophy and History.
1965 - The Faculty of Economics and Sociology was established following the incorporation of the Higher School of Economics in Łódź into the university structure and the inclusion of sociology departments that had previously been part of the Faculty of Philosophy and History.
1981 - A student strike at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Łódź took place primarily in room C101 (then the gymnasium).
1994 - In the early 1990s, several departments initiated a separation from the Faculty of Economics and Sociology, leading to the establishment of the Faculty of Management at the University of Łódź. These efforts were approved by the University Senate.
2005 - At the initiative of Professor Ryszard Piasecki, the first interdisciplinary Summer School seminar was held. Today, every July, the Faculty hosts professors and students from four continents.
2010 - The modern Information and Econometrics Centre was constructed as part of the Infrastructure and Environment Programme
2015 - The Faculty of Economics and Sociology celebrated its 50th anniversary.
2025 - The Faculty of Economics and Sociology celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Scholars such as Antonina Kłoskowska, Jan Mujżel, Jan Szczepański, Edward Rosset, and Władysław Welfe had a significant impact on the faculty’s profile and academic standing.
