The "Mapa Gwiazd” competition brings together art, science and imagination. Participants are invited to create an original map of the sky as seen from Łódź. The competition is open to primary and high school pupils as well as university students. Entries will be judged in four age categories:
- pupils in Years 1 to 3 of primary school,
- pupils in Years 4 to 8 of primary school,
- high school students,
- university students.
The winning design will be installed next to a professional telescope on the rooftop of the Przy Placu Wolności development. As a result, the project will become a part of the city’s public space and serve as a point of reference for people observing the night sky above Łódź.
Winners will receive four professional telescopes, one for the winner in each age category. The organisers have also prepared 16 surprise prizes for the authors of distinguished entries.
Sixty of the best submissions will be selected for the next stage of the competition. These projects will be presented during an exhibition organised at EC1 Łódź, accompanying the "Skarby Ziemi” [Treasures of the Earth] Mineral and Jewellery Festival. Visitors to the exhibition will take part in choosing the overall winning design.
Competition entries may be submitted until 27 September 2026. Detailed information, the competition rules and the application form are available on the competition website (in Polish).
We encourage students of the University of Lodz to unleash their imagination, take a creative look at the night sky and design their own star map for Łódź.
