The researchers investigated eutectogels by combining gelatin with natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES), such as reline (a mixture of choline chloride and urea) and glyceline (a mixture of choline chloride and glycerol). The result? Gels that exhibit no cytotoxicity toward epidermal cells while being lethal to bacteria.
This work presents a new material combined with an innovative physico-chemical research methodology (based on 3D printing, electrochemistry, and a range of other measurement techniques), enabling the evaluation of the material in terms of the controlled release of substances entrapped within the hydrogel structure.
