"ISKRA" at the Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics Has Launched! The First Workshops Are Behind Us

"ISKRA WFiIS – Rozpal ciekawość. Odkrywaj więcej" [ISKRA at the Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics – Ignite Curiosity. Discover More] – under this motto, we have launched a pilot programme of educational workshops at the Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics of the University of Lodz.

This is an original series of workshops prepared specifically for students of the Jarosław Dąbrowski 1st General Secondary School in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. As part of the programme, the secondary school students visit the Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics to explore physics, computer science and new technologies through experimentation, independent work and practical problem-solving.

The first meeting was devoted to electronics and computer game development. Each workshop lasted 90 minutes.

From Theory to a Working Circuit: Physics Workshop

During the workshop “Warsztaty lutowania: od teorii do działającego układu” [Soldering Workshop: From Theory to a Working Circuit] students learned about basic electronic components such as resistors, diodes and transistors. They then used soldering stations to independently assemble circuits on printed circuit boards, enabling the adjustment of the light colour emitted by an RGB diode.

The classes combined theoretical knowledge with practical application, helping participants develop practical skills and understand how electronic solutions used in modern lighting technology work.

Contemporary Game Development in a Practical Nutshell: Computer Science Workshop

The second workshop transported participants into the world of computer game development. During the session “Współczesny gamedev w praktycznej pigułce” [Contemporary Game Development in a Practical Nutshell], students became familiar with the Unity environment and the tools used by professional game development studios.

While working on their own space action game, they had the opportunity to learn the basics of programming in C#, asset management and the use of physics elements in 2D games. The workshop was designed so that students with no previous experience in game development could also take part.

This Is Just the Beginning!

The first meeting inaugurated a series of classes delivered as part of the “ISKRA” pilot programme at the Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics. Further workshops devoted to other topics in physics and computer science are ahead of the students of the 1st General Secondary School in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. Each session will provide an opportunity to discover new subjects, learn about practical applications of knowledge and develop scientific interests.

The “ISKRA” programme at the Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics was created with a specific school and its students in mind. We want to show young people that science is not only theory found in textbooks, but also experimentation, creation and the satisfaction that comes from discovering how the world around us works.

We would like to thank the students and teachers of the Jarosław Dąbrowski 1st General Secondary School in Tomaszów Mazowiecki for joining us at the start of this scientific adventure!
