Social Work students and lecturers from the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Lodz took part in the international workshop on social work in Brunswick, Germany in September 2022.

A friendly world is possible… – the name of the project as part of which Social Work students and lecturers from Poland, the UK and Germany participated in an international workshop on social work in Brunswick, Germany in September 2022.

During the week spent together, many interesting activities took place, including:

  • the presentation and arrangement of films and posters about social work in wartime and work with refugees which were prepared by the individual groups;
  • a visit to the Eintracht Braunschweig football club, where social workers carry out preventive social work with children and young people from radical football fans circles;
  • a visit to a memorial site – the former concentration camp Bergen-Belsen to reflect on how social work can prevent social divisions and bring people together;
  • a photo-historical workshop in Berlin, during which the participants used old maps to look for the location of the Berlin Wall before 1989, while learning about the history of a divided Germany and Berlin

SWETEN – an alliance of universities 

The project is implemented in cooperation with European universities that teach social work and are members of SWETEN alliance. 

Members of the alliance:

  • Ostfalia Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften 
  • Instituto Superior de Serviço Social do Porto 
  • Liverpool John Moores University  
  • University of Lodz – Department of Applied Sociology and Social Work, University of Lodz (coordinator: Dr Paulina Bunio-Mroczek). 

Plans for the future:  

The next international social work workshops under the project are scheduled in: 

  • Lodz – March 2023 
  • Liverpool – September 2023 
  • Porto – spring 2024
