About the Congress
The event focuses on the complex relationships between aquatic and urban environments. Its objective is to demonstrate the wide range of connections between these two environments and the challenges they create.
Each year, the Congress programme is built around three pillars: CITY, WATER, QUALITY OF LIFE. Based on these pillars, this year’s edition will address topics including urban water retention, critical water infrastructure, water supply system modernisation, new technologies supporting hydrological infrastructure management, the natural capital of cities, and the impact of disinformation on quality of life.
UniLodz Representative at the Event
This year’s edition of the Congress was co-organised by dr hab. Iwona Wagner, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz (UNESCO Chair of Ecohydrology and Applied Ecology), who will also take part in a discussion panel scheduled for the second day of the event (14 October, 11:45 a.m.) as moderator of the session entitled: “Kapitał naturalny miasta. Czy polskie miasta potrafią zarabiać na przyrodzie?” [Natural Capital of the City. Can Polish Cities Profit from Nature?]
The session will open with a presentation by Alex Hughes from the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust / London Wetland Centre. The panellists will include: Grzegorz Roman (Deputy Mayor of Wrocław), Łukasz Pawlik (Director of the Municipal Greenery Authority in Kraków), Prof. Bogna Gawrońska-Nowak (Institute of Urban and Regional Development / Krakow University of Economics), Dr Sviataslau Valasiuk (University of Warsaw) and Anna Bednarska (NUTRIBIOMED Cluster, Wrocław Technology Park).
